Music is central to the life of St Johns, and the choice of music is primarily guided by the church year.
The choir sing an anthem at services and lead the congregation with the chosen setting during the Eucharist – and the singing of the Psalm, the Magnificat and Nunc Dimittis at Evensong. In the past the choir has sung evensong at Wells Cathedral.
A wide range of organ music is also played on the 3-manual instrument (originally Walker, but with many revisions and additions), again, with a focus on the church year. The grand piano and an upright piano are also used when appropriate.
Music is pivotal to the many civic services held at the Church: these include the Mayor’s service, military services, College graduations, and the various Carol Services.
At Christmas the choir sing in local careand retirement homes.
A range of music-making takes place during the year, as at the Passover Meal, when the singing is led by a guitar and violins.
The choir is always keen to recruit new members and it is warm and welcoming. Please contact Adrian, Director of Music, on 01934 820443
